The government plans to hold a joint ceremony with North Korea to celebrate the reconnection of cross-border transportation links this month.

The Unification Ministry unveiled the plan during a parliamentary inspection of the ministry on Monday.

The Ministry said that the government is holding discussions with the North to dedicate two cross-border overland routes in a joint ceremony within this month.

Seoul also wants to conduct a test run on the Gyeongui Railway during the ceremony.

South and North Korea have been working to reconnect two sets of cross-border railways, one on the western border and the other along the east coast, and to build two new roads adjacent to the train routes.
