President Roh Moo-hyun has stressed that Seoul has never pursued nuclear development for military purposes, and that such a policy will remain unchanged.

Roh made the comments Monday during an interview with India's top English newspaper, The Times of India, in New Delhi.

Roh emphasized that as a signatory of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, South Korea has always supported international non-proliferation endeavors and complied with its nuclear safeguard obligations.

He also reiterated four so-called principles Seoul has recently laid out for the peaceful utilization of nuclear power.

The South Korean president, who arrived in India on Monday, is slated to hold summit talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.
