Wildfires broke out across the country amid dry weather and strong winds, with 22 cases reported from last weekend through early Monday, an unusually high number for February.

According to fire authorities, a fire that began at around 2 a.m. Monday in Danyang, North Chungcheong Province, spread quickly to nearby villages due to gusts of up to six meters per second, prompting evacuation orders for residents and hikers.

In Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province, more than 100 personnel were deployed after a blaze broke out shortly after midnight, and the main flames were brought under control within about three-point-five hours.

In Goseong, Gangwon Province, another wildfire that ignited at around 7:20 p.m. Sunday triggered a temporary Level 2 response as strong winds fanned the flames.

The blaze in Goseong was contained roughly two hours after it began, though authorities remain on alert for possible rekindling.
