The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) broke the five-thousand-900 mark for the first time during intraday trading on Monday, before trimming its gains to close at the five-thousand-840 level.

Still, the KOSPI rose zero-point-65 percent to end at a fresh high of five-thousand-846-point-09, surpassing the previous record, set just Friday.

The sharp opening came after all three major U.S. stock indices ended last week in positive territory, which followed a U.S. Supreme Court decision to strike down President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs.

Although significant uncertainties remain, the initial removal of ambiguity served as a key upward driver for the market.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ slid two-point-01 points, or zero-point-17 percent, to close at one-thousand-151-point-99.
