A wildfire in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, continued to spread for a second day on Tuesday.

According to the Korea Forest Service, the blaze was 70 percent contained as of 8 a.m., with four-point-two kilometers of the total six-kilometer fire line under control.

Authorities mobilized over 600 personnel and approximately 160 pieces of equipment overnight to prevent the fire from spreading to residential areas and deployed more than 30 helicopters at sunrise to contain the main blaze.

More than 180 residents of three villages and patients from a nursing facility were evacuated overnight to an elementary school and community centers, with no casualties reported so far.

The fire broke out around 4:10 p.m. Monday in the Samnangjin area of Miryang, prompting a national fire mobilization order about 90 minutes later. A Level 2 wildfire response was issued at 2 a.m. Tuesday amid concerns of further spread.
