A wildfire in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, had continued for more than 17 hours and was 85 percent contained as of 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Korea Forest Service said the blaze had affected 141 hectares as of 9:30 a.m., containing five-point-five kilometers of the total six-point-five-kilometer fire line.

The fire broke out around 4:10 p.m. Monday in the Samnangjin area of Miryang, prompting fire authorities to issue a Level 2 response at 2 a.m. after the affected area exceeded 100 hectares.

Authorities mobilized 34 helicopters, 159 vehicles and 893 personnel at sunrise to accelerate containment efforts.

Rain and snow are forecast nationwide on Tuesday, with rain clouds moving into South Gyeongsang Province, including Miryang.

Three to eight centimeters of snow are expected in inland areas of Gyeongsang Province, with some regions likely to see up to ten centimeters or more, which authorities said could help contain wildfires.
