The main blaze of the Miryang wildfire in South Gyeongsang Province has been put out  approximately 20 hours after it started.

The Korea Forest Service said the main blaze that broke out at around 4:10 p.m. on Monday in Miryang city's Samnangjin area was contained by 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities issued a Level Two wildfire alert and estimated that 143 hectares of land had been burned.

The fire prompted 156 area residents to evacuate to an elementary school, but there were no reports of casualties or property damage.

The National Fire Agency also issued a Level Two mobilization order to bring in the nation’s firefighting resources to fight the blaze.

The state weather agency forecast up to eight centimeters of snow accumulation in South Gyeongsang's western inland regions Tuesday, and up to 40 millimters of rain throughout the province Wednesday.
