The National Assembly has approved a motion to arrest Democratic Party-turned-independent Rep. Kang Sun-woo, who stands accused of accepting 100 million won, or around 69-thousand U.S. dollars, from a Seoul city council member in return for election candidacy.

The arrest motion passed in a plenary session vote with 164 in favor, 87 against, three abstentions and nine invalid ballots cast.

Kang will now face a court deliberation to determine whether she will be detained.

Before the vote, Kang appeared at the plenary session and denied the allegations against her, saying she had always returned the money that former Seoul Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung had given her.

Kang said she returned to Kim a total of 322 million won over the course of five occasions.
