The Seoul Metropolitan Government will help install pedal misapplication prevention device in vehicles for drivers aged 70 or older, free of charge, as part of an initiative to reinforce transportation safety and prevent accidents among elderly drivers.

According to city officials, the device is designed to suppress sudden acceleration situations caused by accelerator pedal misapplication when the vehicle is at a stop or traveling at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour or less.

It can also control engine power when the vehicle accelerates under certain conditions, such as the engine speed increasing to four-thousand-500 revolutions per minute.

The city government plans to assist in installing the device in 200 vehicles, including passengers cars and taxis, operated by drivers aged 70 and up.

Applications will be received between March 3 and 17.
