The highly infectious avian influenza has been confirmed at egg-laying hen farms in Seongju County, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gimje City, North Jeolla Province.

The central headquarters handling the disease said on Tuesday that it has dispatched initial response teams to restrict access to the affected farms and is carrying out culling and epidemiological investigations.

The latest detections bring the number of cases at poultry farms this winter to 48.

A 24-hour standstill order has been issued for related farms, facilities and vehicles in the affected regions and nearby areas.

Poultry farms within a ten-kilometer radius of the outbreak sites will receive special monitoring and intensive disinfection measures.
