A survey finds South Korean teenagers regard Russia as the nation most favorable toward Korea's unification, and the United States as the least favorable on the same subject.
According to a local opinion poll conducted on 1,200 teenagers, 37 percent singled out Russia as harboring the least antagonism toward a unified Korea, while countries such as the U.S. and Japan were cited at the opposite end.
The survey shows 6 out of 10 youths feel threatened by Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities, while the same proportion replied that food aid to the North should hinge upon the Communist state's attitude in inter-Korean relations.
Regarding the presence of U.S. forces in Korea, a majority of students, 62 percent, agreed that Seoul needs the American military to defend it against possible security threats. However, a whopping 9 out of 10 teenagers considered the relationship with the U.S. as being uneven and unfair.
The poll was conducted over five days last month by Research & Research for the presidential Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification.
