South Korea has been reelected as a council board member of an international civil aviation body for another three years.

The Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Wednesday that South Korea got enough votes to retain its seat on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization during a general assembly held Tuesday in Montreal.

South Korea, which joined the organization in 1952, was elected to the council board for the first time in 2001.

Council board membership is considered to be barometer of a country's standing in the global aviation community as it allows participation in making international civil aviation policies.
