South Korea's Zaitun Unit stationed in the northern Iraqi city of Irbil recently went on high alert over growing concerns of possible terrorist attacks from Iraqi insurgent groups.

The South Korean troops in Iraq are beefing up security measures against terrorist strikes as it has recently secured information on possible attacks from Iraqi insurgents in the northern region of the Gulf country.

Responding to the information, the Zaitun Unit recently deployed surveillance equipment around its facilities located in Rashikin, Irbil.

Last week, Al-Jazeera television broadcast an audio message attributed to Ayman al-Zawahiri, a top al-Qaida lieutenant, urging Muslims to attack member countries of the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq, including South Korea, Japan, Australia and France.
