Roh Seeks ASEM's Help over N. Korea Nuke Issue

Following a pre-summit session on Thursday, President Roh Moo-hyun is attending two rounds of ASEM summit in Hanoi Friday.

The president will call for the support of Asian and European leaders in seeking a peaceful resolution to North Korea's nuclear standoff on the first day of the ASEM forum.

Roh will explain to the 39 ASEM member countries a comprehensive plan that outlines Seoul's large scale economic assistance for North Korea in the event it drops its nuclear ambitions. Roh is expected to touch on international issues, including ways to fight global terrorism.

The president is also set to give an explanation on Seoul's economic policies, focusing on ways to create a friendly environment for firms of new ASEM members, particularly Poland and the Czech Republic, to make inwards into the South Korean market.

On Friday night, Roh is scheduled to hold summit talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
