CAS to Rule on Yang's Appeal Next Week

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has announced that it will reach a final decision on an appeal from South Korean gymnast Yang Tae-young next week.

An official of the sports body said Monday that the final decision would be disclosed some time between next Tuesday and Saturday.

Most neutral observers have agreed that the South Korean gymnast was unfairly deprived of the gold and awarded the bronze medal in the men's all-around event at the Athens Olympics last month because of a scoring error. Yang insists international gymnastics officials should be overruled, made to reorder the rankings and give him the gold medal and American gymnast Paul Hamm the silver. The gold went to the American in Athens.

Hamm and the U.S. Olympic Committee argued he should keep his gold medal despite a challenge from the South Koreans.

A scoring mistake was confirmed to have been made at the games, but the International Gymnastics Federation has refused to change the results, arguing that South Korea didn't file a protest in time.
