The Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that an Islamic extremist group has threatened to attack South Korean targets unless Seoul pulls out its troops from Iraq in 14 days.

A ministry spokesman said the Islamic martyr's group has posted the warning on an Arab-language Website and that the government is currently working to confirm the veracity of the threat.

The Islamic organization in question is a lesser-known terrorist cell, but the spokesman said the group proclaimed itself to be an al-Qaida faction operating in Southeast Asia.

In response, the Seoul government has ordered tightened security at local facilities as well as diplomatic missions around the world.
