South Korea is sending a delegation to an international conference of donors aimed at assisting the rehabilitation of war-torn Iraq.

South Korean delegates led by Jo Hyeong, chief of the foreign ministry's international economy bureau, will participate in the "donor committee meeting" to be held in Tokyo on Wednesday and Thursday.

Seoul has already pledged to provide two point six billion dollars toward rehabilitating the Gulf state until 2007. As of last year, South Korea has earmarked 60 million dollars in donations for Iraq. A portion of the aid will be used to create jobs, set up infrastructure, support the return of refugees to the Irbil region and remove landmines.

During the meeting, a total of 47 delegations, including those of Iraq, the United Nations, the World Bank, 15 committee member states and other donor countries will assess development strategies for rebuilding Iraq and ways to make better use of the donated funds.

This week's meeting follows two previous ones held in February and May.
