GNP Leader Offers Role of Special Envoy

Written: 2004-10-13 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Chairwoman of the main opposition Grand National Party (GNP) Park Geun-hye says she is willing to travel to North Korea as Seoul's special envoy if her visit would be helpful in settling the North's nuclear issue.

Park made the comments Tuesday shortly after Uri Party Chairman Lee Bu-young mentioned Park and former President Kim Dae-jung as strong candidates to become special envoys to Pyongyang.

However, Park also denounced Lee for his party's push for the abolishment of the National Security Law. The GNP wants the anti-communist legislation to be kept in place due to concerns of a security vacuum in the wake of its absence.
