The Seoul government has approved a Hyundai Asan project to construct a golf course at Mount Geumgang in North Korea.

The approval clears the way for establishing an 18-hole course and related facilities at the scenic mountain resort.

Hyundai Asan plans to open the golf course and facilities in September, 2005.

A government official expressed hope that the project would create an environmentally-friendly course at Mt. Geumgang that could eventually host international golf competitions.

The government also said that the project would ultimately contribute to reinvigorating tourism to the area.
