North Korea's No. 2 leader, Kim Yong-nam, says his country still wants to settle its nuclear impasse through dialogue.

The head of the Presidium of North Korea's parliament said Monday in a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wu Bangguo that "the situation of the Korean Peninsula is still complicated, but the North Korean side would like to find a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue through dialogue."

In reply, Wu said that although the process of the talks has currently encountered some problems, China believes the talks can go on if every party shows sincerity, patience and flexibility.

The Chinese government refused to give further details on the meeting of the two parliamentary heads that took place at the Great Hall of the People.

However, state-run China Daily said efforts to prepare for a fresh round of six-way nuclear talks were high on the agenda of the two senior officials' meeting.

Kim, who arrived in Beijing Monday, is also scheduled to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao this week.
