North Korea's No.2 leader, Kim Yong-nam, has reiterated Pyongyang's commitment to resolving its nuclear standoff peacefully through dialogue.

The North's parliamentary chief met with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing on Tuesday and discussed matters of mutual concern, including the North's nuclear issue.

In a statement after their meeting, Kim and Hu said that their countries would continuously work to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and to seek a peaceful resolution to the North's atomic standoff through continuous dialogue.

However, the statement stopped short of mentioning whether Kim had discussed the six-way talks during his meeting with Hu and whether he had mentioned a date for the resumption of the nuclear discussions.

Kim, who arrived in Beijing on Monday, will return home on Wednesday.
