President Roh Moo-hyun has stressed the need to set straight historical records in a dinner meeting with some 40 city council members of Pusan.

In the meeting held at the presidential office Wednesday, Roh said the reform measures sought in the four bills recently drafted by the ruling Uri Party are not different from those that were pursued by the former governments of Kim Dae-jung and Kim Young-sam.

Roh also reportedly said that the ruling camp's move to scrap the National Security Law is also part of the process of developing the nation's democracy.

The four reform bills sought by the Uri Party include one on abolishing the National Security Law and three others on opening investigations into the nation's modern history and enacting media and private education reforms.

Roh also said he does not believe the nation's economy is in a crisis and expressed confidence that the government would realize a long-term economic recovery.
