Twenty-nine alleged North Korean asylum-seekers have dashed into a South Korean school in Beijing.

The group successfully entered the school compound Friday morning through its back gate which was open at the time, and identified themselves as North Korean escapees and requested asylum to South Korea.

It is the first time for alleged North Korean refugees to enter the South Korean school in the Chinese capital, which currently enrolls a total of 556 middle and high school students.

School authorities immediately informed the South Korean Embassy in Beijing of the group's entry.
