Rice Delivery to N. Korea Nearing Completion

Written: 2004-10-23 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The Unification Ministry says the delivery of one hundred-thousand tons of South Korean rice aid to the North will be completed on Wednesday.
South Korea has been transporting the rice in convoys of trucks four times a week since July through the cross-border roads on the eastern and western sections of the demilitarized zone.
It is the first time North Korea has accepted South Korea's proposal to deliver the rice donations via cross-border land routes.
The Ministry said earlier this week South Korean aid monitors confirmed the distribution of the rice to North Korean residents, and that the North Koreans knew the rice was donated by the South Korean government.
