US Says Unwilling to Accept N.Korea Conditions for 6-Party Talks

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says the U.S. will not accept North Korea's conditions for resuming the stalled six-party talks,aimed at resolving a standoff over the North's nuclear ambitions.
Powell made the comments during his flight to Japan on the first leg of his trip to Northeast Asia.
Powell said all of Pyongyang's demands should be made within the six-party framework and setting up conditions to the talks was not a desirable approach to resolving the issue.
North Korea's foreign ministry on Friday posed as conditions for resuming the talks that discussions must first be held on South Korea's past nuclear experiments,Powell to Visit S.Korea Monday U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell is slated to arrive in South Korea on Monday on the last leg of his Asian tour.
During his visit, Powell will meet with President Roh Moo-hyun to convey greetings from U.S. President George Bush and later meet for talks with Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon.
During that meeting, Seoul foreign ministry said the two officials will discuss the possible resumption of stalled six-party talks, South Korea's controversial past nuclear experiments and a recently passed law in the U.S. for supporting North Korean human rights.
The two sides will also talk about possible cost-sharing for upgrading a key tactical command control center for the joint defense of South Korea.
The ministry said a news conference will be held after the meeting.
