Arabic Website Threatens Attack on Zaitun Unit

A person claiming to be an Iraqi supporter of Muslim militants has threatened a terrorist attack on South Korean troops stationed in Iraq.

The threatening statement was posted on an Arabic-language website by an Iraqi national who claims to be a "servant" of the Kashmir-based militant group, Mujahideen. It is the same website on which a threatening message against Seoul was posted earlier this month.

The statement urged all members of Mujahideen to stage attacks against the South Korean Zaitun unit operating in the Kurdish region of Irbil. It listed British soldiers as the "number one target" while South Korean troops were listed as the third-highest priority target.

It is the first time that South Korean soldiers in Iraq have been singled out for threatened terrorist attacks since their deployment there on September 22nd.

South Korea has deployed some 3,600 troops in the war-riven nation, making it the third-largest contributor of coalition forces after the U.S. and Great Britain.
