Seoul has urged the European Union (EU) to exercise prudence in its investigations into anti-dumping cases.

The South Korean government sent an official from its Permanent Mission to the U.N. and International Organizations in Geneva to the Trade Policy Review meeting, which was held in the headquarters of the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

At the two day meeting which began on Monday, the South Korean envoy asked E.U. members to be cautious in implementing a new European chemicals policy, known as Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH), citing that the policy could hamper the flow of trade liberalization.

The main objective of the chemical policy is to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment, while ensuring the efficient functioning of internal markets and stimulating innovation and competitiveness in chemical industries.

The E.U.'s anti-dumping probes are usually focused on China, but this year, two cases involving synthetic rubber and polyester fiber in South Korea are currently included in the scope of those investigations.
