The government is seeking to attract foreign high-tech companies' R&D centers to South Korea in a bid to create jobs for local unemployed engineering and science degree-holders.

The government, the Federation of Korean Industries and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency held a presentation on the project on Friday in central Seoul.

Leaders of some 40 foreign members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) attended the presentation.

Under the so-called win-win project, the government plans to provide annually funds of up to 30 million won per person for up to 100 researchers, and up to 50 million won per person for up to 10 foreign trainers.

The FKI said that it plans hold a series of presentations on the project in Japan, the United States and Europe within the year before selecting a company next February.
