Seogwipo City Signs Environmental Agreement with UN Agency

Officials in the Jeju island city of Seogwipo signed on Monday a cooperation agreement with a U.N. agency to help develop the city into an environmentally friendly town. Seogwipo City Mayor Kang Sang-joo and representatives of U.N.-HABITAT signed a letter of intent on 'Sustainable Community Planning'. Under the agreement, the U.N. office for human settlement programs will provide technical support for the city’s development plan, while promoting sustainable development strategies in Northeast Asia while working from Jeju Island. Local officials said that Seogwipo City aims to win U.N. recognition as an environmentally friendly city within the next two years.
