A road connecting South and North Korea on the eastern section of their border is to open services beginning late November. The Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Tuesday the construction of the cross-border road, which covers the 4.17 kilometer distance between the Gosung Unification Observatory in the South and the town of Onjungni in the North, was completed late last month. The Wonju Regional Construction Management Office said it would open the cross-border road on November 31st after discussions with related ministries. The office added that tourists to Mount Geumgang in the North will also be able to use the new road beginning next month. South and North Korea had agreed in June to open the cross-border roads on the eastern and western sections of the peninsula in October. A joint ceremony to mark the opening has been postponed, however, due to North Korea's refusal to hold working-level talks on the matter.
