South and North Korea are close to an agreement on the South's provision of electricity to the Gaesong Industrial Complex in the North.

A government official says the two sides will wrap up negotiations soon and sign an accord some time this week.

The official said the Korea Electric Power Corporation would start construction on transmission facilities as soon as the accord is signed.

Under the envisaged agreement, the South's state-run utility would provide 15 thousand kilowatts of electricity to the pilot site of the industrial park in the North's border city of Gaesong.

The signing of the agreement, if realized, would come four years and three months after the two sides first agreed to develop the industrial complex.
