South Korean Ambassador to the United States Han Seung-joo says it would be in the best interest for North Korea to return to nuclear negotiations as swiftly as possible in consideration of U.S. President George W. Bush's reelection last week. Han said in an interview with SBS radio Tuesday that regardless of the efforts by the remaining members of the six-party talks to bring North Korea back to the dialogue table, the most important factor at the present time is for the North to decide to positively respond to such efforts. Regarding a proposed inter-Korean summit as a way to resolve North Korea's nuclear issue, the ambassador said although the summit would be beneficial to inter-Korean relations, its influence over ongoing efforts to resolve the nuclear crisis would be limited.
