Thirty-four North Koreans defectors who have been living in the South have reportedly left Seoul for other countries, expecting a better life there. According to a government report released Saturday, out of the 34 defectors, 14 emigrated to the U.S., 6 moved to Japan and 5 to Argentina. According to another survey conducted by the local Segye Times newspaper on 100 North Koreans who defected to Seoul in September, some 70 percent wished to move to another country if possible, including the U.S., Canada or Australia. And an online survey conducted early this year by KBS radio of some 3,300 local citizens show that nearly half of South Korean respondents hoped to emigrate. North Korean defectors say they are often faced with discrimination in the South Korean society.
