A cold snap has gripped the country in the second weekend of November pushing down the mercury below freezing point in some regions for the first time this year on Saturday. This comes some 15 days later than the usual cold in recent years. Morning lows went down to minus 7 degrees Celsius in the mountainous eastern region of Daegwallyeong, minus 4.4 degrees in Cheolwon, minus 4 in Dongducheon, minus 3 in Chungju and minus 2.5 degrees Celsius in Wonju, with temperature of most central inlands and high-latitude regions in Gangwon province plummeting below zero. The Korea Meteorological Administration said a high-pressure front from the northwest has cast a cold pall over the peninsula, saying that people will feel much colder than the actual temperature due to strong winds. The chilly weather will subside slightly on Sunday, but will come again next week. Also on Sunday, the nation will get cloudy with expected rainfalls in the south and Jeju island later in the afternoon or at night.
