A report has shown that the international community has provided some 2.1 billion dollars in aid to North Korea since 1995, a time when the communist state was drastically suffering food shortages.

According to the report, drafted by a researcher at the Korea Rural Economic Institute, some 1.3 billion dollars of the total donated aid came through the United Nation's Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP).

The report added that the U.S. provided around 640 million dollars of the CAP funds, while South Korea provided 380 million dollars, and that 90% of the total financial aid to the North was food-related.
