President Roh Moo-hyun has expressed hope for active parliamentary exchanges between South Korea and Argentina.

During a meeting with members of Argentina's bicameral National Congress, Roh said Tuesday that the two countries have a lot in common, pointing to their respective efforts to shed light on past wrongdoings and to recover from economic recessions.

In addition, Roh asked for the South American nation's special attention to the Korean-Argentine community, which will mark the 40th anniversary of South Korean immigration to Argentina next year.

Following his meeting with the lawmakers, the president visited Buenos Aires University, whose trustees conferred an honorary professorship on Roh.

Ahead of the meeting with the parliamentary leaders, Roh attended a luncheon meeting with Argentine business figures and stressed the need to promote economic exchanges between the two countries.

Roh is scheduled to leave for Brazil late Tuesday night on the second leg of his Latin American visit.
