South Korea is resuming fertilizer aid to North Korea.

The South Korean Red Cross says a freighter carrying five thousand tons of fertilizer, the first batch of the 100-thousand tons South Korea pledged earlier this year, will leave Yeosoo port in the South to Nampo in the North Wednesday.

A government official says the remaining shipments will be delivered as soon as freighters are secured.

The official said Seoul has notified Pyongyang on the shipping schedule through a liaison officer at the border village of Panmunjom.
