The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs says six-hundred-92 civil employees have been dismissed from their positions for taking part in Monday's general strike.

The ministry has also ordered disciplinary action against some one-thousand employees who joined the illegal walkout.

Local city and provincial governments are set to convene disciplinary committees on the matter until next week.

Most of some three-thousand civil servants who took part in the general strike earlier this week are expected to be relieved of their posts.

A general strike organized on Monday by the 140 thousand-strong Korean Government Employees' Union fizzled out after many union members failed to participate in the face of a tough law enforcement crackdown.
