A survey finds some 20 percent of sulfur pollutants in South Korea come from China.

According to the survey, out of the total 460 thousand tons of sulfur acid pollutants in 1998, more than 90 thousand tons were sent adrift over the Yellow Sea to the Korean Peninsula from industrial complexes in China.

The survey was conducted by the National Institute of Environmental Research on environmental experts of South Korea, China and Japan on the origin of sulfurous acid gas.

The institute plans to conduct a joint survey on the cross-border movement of nitric acid compounds next year and make joint efforts to reduce air pollution in Northeast Asia.
