Unification Minister Chung Dong-young says the government wants to extend the suspension of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization's light-water reactor project in North Korea for another year.

In a meeting with KEDO Executive Director Charles Kartman who returned from a trip to Pyongyang on Thursday, Chung said that, considering current political situations, the light-water reactor project must be suspended for another year.

Kartman responded by saying KEDO would take into consideration Seoul's stance on the matter but said the fate of the reactor project would inevitably be affected by the six-party talks, as it is directly linked to North Korea's nuclear issue.
