South Korea's southern island of Jeju is set to ship 2,000 tons of tangerines to North Korea. The shipment is part of a pledge to donate 10,000 tons of tangerines to the North by the end of this year. The Jeju provincial government and a local civic group working to promote inter-Korean civic cooperation said Tuesday the first batch would be sent Wednesday to the North via a Hong Kong cargo ship departing from Jeju Port. The Jeju provincial government and the civic group have shipped a total of 25,072 tons of tangerines to North Korea since 1998.
