Unification Minister Chung Dong-young is pushing to visit North Korea for the first time since he took office.

A government official said Monday that Chung is hopig to attend a ceremony marking the first production of South Korean goods in the pilot complex of the Gaesong Industrial Complex in the North next Wednesday.

The official said, however, that the minister's visit still needs to be finalized through talks with Pyongyang.

The ceremony was originally to be attended by working-level officials from the two Koreas.
