Seoul Says to Seek 'Gaesong Provision' in Future FTA Talks

The government says it will seek provisions in future free trade agreement (FTA) talks that would allow for preferential duties on products manufactured from the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea. Under such provisions, North Korean products would receive equal treatment as South Korean goods.

The Trade Ministry said Monday that a recent free trade pact signed with Singapore recognizes goods from Gaesong as products of South Korea.

Meanwhile, the ministry also said that the trade ministers of South Korea and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will convene for summit talks on Thursday to discuss the beginning of discussions on adopting a bilateral FTA.
