A South Korean kitchenware manufacturer that has advanced into North Korea’s Gaesong Industrial Complex has kicked off production after holding a ceremony marking the completion of its plant in the industrial park on Wednesday.
Livingart says it plans to reap around 35 billion won in sales by producing three million stainless fry pans, kettles and pots, annually.
The South Korean manufacturer completed the construction of its two-floor plant after two months since breaking ground in September and has around 300 North Korean employees and 30 workers from the South.
Among pans produced on Wednesday, approximately one-thousand sets will be sold at the Seoul Lotte Department Store.
Other South Korean firms that are planning to do business in the initial pilot complex are all scheduled to complete construction of their plants by the first half of next year and will begin operations from the first quarter of next year.
