Mongolian President Natsagiin Bagabandi is set to soon visit North Korea.
The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency said Thursday that Bagabandi will visit Pyongyang upon the invitation of North Korea's titular head of state Kim Yong-nam, who also serves as chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.
The news agency, however, has not announced the date of the Mongolian president's visit, nor the purpose of his trip.
North Korea and Mongolia have been expanding bilateral cooperation in recent years. The North Korean embassy in Mongolia reopened in August, five years after it was shut down. In November 2003, Prime Minister Nambar Enkhbayar made a formal visit to Pyongyang, becoming the first Mongolian premier in four years to visit the North.
Bagabandi visited Seoul in October 2003 and held talks with President Roh Moo-hyun on issues of mutual interest, including ways to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
