Gov't Considers Ambassadorial Post on North Nuke Issue

The government is considering creating an ambassadorial post, under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry, that deals exclusively with the North Korean nuclear issue.

An official said Sunday the measure aims to tackle the nuclear issue in a concentrated and effective manner, and said that a deputy minister-level official will take the post and serve as the country's chief delegate to the six-way talks on the North's nuclear arms program.

After consulting with the presidential office, the foreign ministry is expected to announce this week other appointments of key diplomatic posts including the chief of South Korea's mission to the United Nations.
