Mongolian President Natsagyn Bagabandi has arrived in North Korea's capital of Pyongyang for an official visit.

The North's state-run media said Tuesday the Mongolian leader was greeted by Kim Yong-nam, chairman of Pyongyang's Supreme People's Assembly, at the airport.

The news agencies did not provide details on the purpose and duration of Bagabandi's trip. Earlier, a Mongolian newspaper reported the president would make a three-day visit to the communist state, the second such visit by a Mongolian leader since 1956.

Mongolia recently said it would not stop North Korean defectors crossing the border into the country from China, but it has also expressed reluctance to back international humanitarian efforts for building a refugee camp in the country.

Mongolia is the only other country, besides China, that maintains officials ties with both South and North Korea.
