China’s Jilin Province is seeking to take part in the development and management of North Korea's Rajin-Seonbong Economic and Trade Zone, a Japanese daily reported on Wednesday.

The Tokyo Shimbun quoted a Jilin Province official as saying the local government delivered its hopes to North Korea’s top trade official Lim Kyung-man who visited the provincial capital of Changchun last Wednesday.
It said North Korea also agreed to the proposal.

If realized, it would be the first time that China would take part in the project to develop the special trade zone.

The daily said the Jilin Province also plans to utilize the region as a center for trade with South Korea and Japan.
