Survey: 62% Against Assisted Defection of North Koreans

A survey shows 62 percent of South Koreans are opposed to efforts by non-governmental organizations to plan and organize North Koreans’defection to the South.

According to the survey released by the Ministry of Unification, only 32 percent of the respondents agreed with the NGO's such organized attempts to help North Koreans seek asylum in the South.

Regarding an ongoing inter-Korean economic project to build the Gaesong Industrial Complex, some 54 percent said they knew about the project, higher than the 46 percent who said they did not.

Respondents showed mixed opinions on the government's general policy toward North Korea, with 50 percent speaking favorably of the policy and 42 percent voicing disapproval.
