North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun newspaper has called on Tokyo to come clean on its past historical wrong-doings at the earliest date possible.

The official newspaper for North Korea’s Korean Workers' Party made the call in a statement Saturday, citing that Japan will become a rightful member of the international community only after it clears up its history issues.

The daily denounced Tokyo for showing no efforts to settle its past wrong-doings, citing that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The paper called on Tokyo to apologize to and compensate the people of Korea and other Asian nations for the “physical and psychological damage” it incurred during its imperialism and colonialism in the 1940s.
